ah the serial comma the subject of much debate a Serial comma isnamp;#39;t quite the same as your regular old comma yes it looks exactly the same and is used by pressing the same key on your keyboard what makes a comma serial or not is its position a Serial comma is a comma that is used before the last item in a list for example if youamp;#39;re texting someone a list of things you need them to buy at the grocery store you might write can you buy eggs milk butter and coffee the comma before and in this short message is the serial comma the commas after eggs and milk are not cereal commas theyamp;#39;re your standard basic middle of the list commas that sentence without the serial comma looks like this can you buy eggs milk butter and coffee itamp;#39;s pretty straightforward right given the context we recognize that this is a simple shopping list and we can understand that butter and coffee are separate items

An Oxford comma, also sometimes referred to as the serial comma, is a comma used after the penultimate item in a list of three or more items, before and or or. For example, He went to the market to buy eggs, cheese, and bread. In the sentence above, theres a comma between each item listed.
Dont overdo it, as it can distract the reader and make content less readable. And dont make punctuation bold, unless the whole sentence is.
What is the Oxford comma? In a list of three or more items, the last comma is called the Oxford comma (or the serial comma). For example, in He bought eggs, milk, and bread, theres a comma between each item listed. The comma before and is the Oxford comma.
Also known as a serial comma, the Oxford comma is placed immediately before the conjunctionusually and, or, or norin a series of three or more terms. Without the Oxford comma: Would you like steak, chicken or pork for dinner? With the Oxford comma: Would you like steak, chicken, or pork for dinner?
For example, in the sentence I love my pets, chocolate, and pizza, the Oxford comma makes it clear that all three items are separate. This one could be confusing if the Oxford comma were left out: I love my pets, chocolate and pizza might mean that the speakers pets are named Chocolate and Pizza.
A regular comma has multiple uses in grammar: it separates items in a list, acts as a pause in writing, and separates clauses in a sentence. An Oxford Comma has one purpose: it specifically sits before and or or in lists of three or more.
