4 Social Security Tax Withheld: The amount of social security tax withheld from all OASDI taxable wages. This amount should be equal to 6.2% of the wages listed in Box 3 up to the maximum allowed ($7960.80 for tax year 2018).
When you have different cities listed on your W-2, you have each city listed separately and then a total page. You should enter the individual city amounts separately. The one that says Total City reports the total of all city withholding on your W-2 and can be ignored.
This amount is the taxpayers share of investment income (interest, dividends, etc.)
Box 14 Employers can use W-2 box 14 to report information like: A member of the clergys parsonage allowance and utilities. Any charitable contribution made through payroll deductions. Educational assistance payments. Health insurance premium deductions. Nontaxable income. State disability insurance taxes withheld.
Boxes 15 20 Write your state and employer state ID number in box 15 if your state requires you to do so. Box 16 is for an employees total earnings that are subject to state income tax withholding, while box 17 indicates the state income tax amount thats been withheld.
Box 1 - Wages, tips and other compensation. Box 2 - Federal income tax withholding. Box 3 - Social security wages. Box 4 - Social security tax. Box 5 - Medicare wages and tips.
Box 17: State Income tax This amount represents the total of state income taxes withheld from your paycheck for the wages reported in Box 16. Box 18, 19 and 20: Local Wages, Local Income Tax and Locality Name These boxes apply to out-of-state employees only, whose tax residency states collect local income taxes.
The W-2 box 12 codes are: A Uncollected Social Security tax or Railroad Retirement Tax Act (RRTA) tax on tips. B Uncollected Medicare tax on tips. C Taxable costs of group-term life insurance over $50,000 (included in W-2 boxes 1,3 (up to Social Security wages base), and box 5); Taxable costs are information only.
