The chapter title should be centered halfway or one-third of the way down the page. For the first chapter, write Chapter One (or Chapter 1) and write the chapter title below. Continue this chapter headings format for each subsequent chapter number. New chapters should start on a blank page.
Make Your Book Chapter Headings and Subheadings Stand Out Use bold and italics to further set them apart. Doing so will also make it easier for your readers to grasp the material in your book.
There are several different ways to get bold text in LaTeX; see this question for discussion on when to use the different bold commands. \textbf{ } will make text inside it bold. The \bfseries command switches on bold text, which is useful for defining formatting, e.g. when using the listings package.
It is generally accepted that headings should be bold. Not just for the web, but in general writing too. Bolding provides a visual cue that tells readers it is a main idea or theme for a section. Even the APA style guide recommends bolding of headers
To make text bold in LaTeX, you can use the \textbf{} command. Heres an example: latexCopy code\documentclass{article}
Your title should be presented as a first-level heading. It is centered, in bold font, and all major words should be capitalized. When all major words are capitalized, this is called Title Case.
To write text in bold, use the \textbf{..} command and enter the text you would like in bold within the curly brackets. To underline text, use \underline{..} and enter the text you would like to underline within the curly brackets. LaTeX also offers the option to format your text in small capital letters.
The best way to emphasize a heading is by putting space above and below, because its both subtle and effective. Use bold, not italic. For headings, bold is easier to read than italic and stands out better on the page. And since the choice is bold or italicnot bothyou should prefer bold.
The \boldmath declaration switches to a bold math italic font; this causes letters, numbers, and most symbols used in math mode to be set in a bold type. (In LaTeX2e everything in the formula is set in a bold font.) The \unboldmath declaration switches back to the normal math italic font.
In this example, the text enclosed within the curly braces after \textbf will appear in bold when you compile the document. You can use this command for individual words, phrases, or entire paragraphs to apply bold formatting.
