The Apple Filing Protocol (AFP), formerly AppleTalk Filing Protocol, is a proprietary network protocol, and part of the Apple File Service (AFS), that offers file services for macOS, classic Mac OS, and Apple II computers.
Instead, they can communicate directly over TCP port 445. Just as Windows has its own protocols for transferring files, Mac OS also has its own protocols for the Apple Filing Protocol or AFP. These file services in Mac OS use TCP port 548.
As of Mac OS 11 Big Sur, support for both AFP and AppleTalk have been completely removed from the operating system.
TCP port 7000 is used by Cassandra to handle internode communication between Cassandra nodes in a cluster. It is important to ensure that there is no unrestricted inbound access to this port to prevent unauthorized access or malicious activities such as data theft, modification or deletion.
Port 548 is used by the AFP file sharing service that runs over TCP. If you have file sharing enabled in the AirPort Utility for this base station, then this port will be set to listen for traffic.
Click GO in the Finder Menu bar, then choose Connect to Server Type in afp:// followed by the IP address. Click Connect to proceed. A prompt will appear requesting a user name and password. Enter the information for a user on the drive, and any shares on the device will be accessible.
