What is a Via? A via is a small drilled hole that goes through two or more adjacent layers. It allows the signals and power to travel between layers. As the circuits between the layers of a multilayer PCB are independent of each other, vias are important means to establish inter-layer connections.
Vias are crucial for designing complex and compact electronic circuits where traditional surface routing might be impractical. In addition to their role in electrical connectivity, vias also impact the signal integrity of the PCB, especially in high-speed designs.
A via is a hole that is used to make an electrical connection between the different layers of a PCB. It is a plated through hole that allows trace routing from the surface layer of a multi-layer PCB to the inner and outer layers to conduct electrical signals between them.
The typical layout shows a via capture pad size of 0.660 mm, a via size of 0.254 mm, and an inner space and trace of 0.102 mm. With this layout, only one trace can be routed between the vias. If more traces are required, you must reduce the via capture pad size or the space and trace size.
They are essentially small holes drilled through the PCB and plated with a conductive material. Vias enable traces on one layer to connect with traces on another layer, creating a three-dimensional network of connections. Vias come in different types, including through-hole vias and blind/buried vias.
Vias are conducting holes in the PCB. They electrically connect one PCB Layer with another, say, connecting the top PCB layer with the bottom PCB layer. Vias could also connect layers in between. On the other hand, Traces are meant to conduct electricity from one PCB component or PCB pad to the other.
