space character can be a big problem for Excel users sometimes we export data from it systems for some reasons thereamp;#39;s extra spaces around those values that we just donamp;#39;t need now we canamp;#39;t see those spaces all the time but Excel can they might be leading spaces or trailing spaces or maybe even duplicate spaces between words and this means that for Excel it means that calculations donamp;#39;t work errors can occur items donamp;#39;t match when they should so in this video weamp;#39;re looking at seven ways that we can remove excess spaces so we can get our data nice and clean and work with it correctly so if youamp;#39;re ready letamp;#39;s get started here in Excel you can see the example data that we will be using for this video we have a part number and the supplier column and you can see that there are various leading trailing and mid spaces contained within those values so weamp;#39;ll start by looking at two simple methods then looking at two functio

Use the LEN function to check the length of the content in cell B2: =LEN(B2). This will give you the count of characters in the cell, which can help identify if there are any unexpected characters. Copy and paste the content of cell B2 to a different cell and then use the FIND function on the copied content.
Remove all spaces between numbers Press Ctrl + Space to select all cells in a column. Press Ctrl + H to open the Find Replace dialog box. Press Space bar in the Find What field and make sure the Replace with field is empty. Click on the Replace all button, and then press Ok. Voila! All spaces are removed.
Use the Trim formula to remove extra spaces Add the helper column to the end of your data. In the first cell of the helper column (C2), enter the formula to trim excess spaces =TRIM(A2) Copy the formula across the other cells in the column. Replace the original column with the one that has the cleaned data.
On the Formulas tab, click the Text dropdown menu in the Functions group and select TRIM. After the dialog box appears, click on the cell that contains the text you would like to remove spaces from to complete the function. Click OK.
Whenever you want to remove blank spaces in your Excel sheets, perform these 4 quick steps: Select the cells (range, entire column or row) where you want to delete extra spaces. Click the Trim Spaces button on the Ablebits Data tab. Choose one or several options: Remove leading and trailing spaces. Click the Trim button.
How to Use TRIM Function Step 1) Start the TRIM function. Select a cell E2. Type =TRIM. Step 2) Select a range of cells to be used in the TRIM function. Select a range ( A2:C21 ) Step 3) Use the TRIM function with spacing between text: Use =TRIM function by following the steps in the example above to format the text:
In a blank cell, enter the formula =TRIM(A2), where A2 is the cell containing the first data point. 3. Press Enter to apply the formula to the cell, and then copy the formula to the remaining cells in the range.
The TRIM function can get rid of white spaces, but it cannot eliminate non-printing characters. Technically, Excel TRIM is designed to only delete value 32 in the 7-bit ASCII system, which is the space character. To remove spaces and non-printing characters in a string, use TRIM in combination with the CLEAN function.
