Redlining contracts in Google Docs Enable Suggesting Mode: Click the pencil icon in the top right corner and select Suggesting. This mode allows you to make changes without altering the original text. Inserting text: To add new text, simply type where you want the addition.
Redlining is the process of editing a contract when two or more parties are negotiating or working together. The goal is to produce a single document that satisfies all parties. The term redlining comes from the original, physical method of editing contracts, which involved printed papers and red pens.
Blackline vs. Redline. Red line referred to the original copy that had the red marks. Once the document was copied by the copy machine, it was called blackline, since the lines were now black instead of red.
How the contract redline process works Review the initial draft. The process starts when you receive the initial contract draft. Propose changes. You then go through the draft and mark up any changes you suggest. Negotiate and revise. Update the draft. Final review and signing.
Right-click the document and select Suggest edits from the dropdown menu. This setting allows you to redline the contract in real time by making edits to it.
Click and drag your cursor through the text that you want to modify, which highlights it. Highlighting the text means that any formatting or editing tools you use are going to affect that section alone. While highlighted, click the Font color button, then the Strikethrough button. This text is now redlined.
