Usain Bolt holds the world record for the fastest recorded speed by a human. During his 100-meter world record run at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, he docHubed a top speed of 27.8 mph (44.72 km/h). So, it was approximately 28 mph, not 27 mph or 29 mph.
On that day, Bolt clocked an astonishing time of 19.19 seconds, breaking his own previous record of 19.30 seconds, which he had set at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Noah Lyles became the worlds fastest man when he won the 100 meters at the Paris Olympics on Sunday. But the American sprinters time of 9.79 seconds fell short of the world record of 9.58 set by Usain Bolt of Jamaica 15 years ago. Lyles will have another shot at Bolt when he competes in the 200 final on Thursday.
At the Paris Olympics, the mens 100m final saw all finalists clock sub-10-second finishes, with the top six surpassing Usain Bolts peak speed of 27.8 mph. Despite these impressive feats, none came close to breaking Bolts iconic 9.58-second world record.
In August 2009 at the World Championships in Berlin, Germany, Bolt ran the 100 meters in 9.58, a record that still remains intact. Bolts finish time bested his 100 meter records of 9.69 and 9.72 seconds that hed previously set, respectively, in Beijing, China, and New York, per World Athletics stats.
The fastest top speed ever achieved by a human was Bolts 12.42 meters/second (27.8 mph). In the fastest race in history, Usain Bolt ran 100 meters in 9.58 seconds, defeating Tyson Gay who finished second in 9.71 and Asafa Powell who finished third, to become the fastest human in world history.
The mens world record is 9.58 seconds, set by Jamaicas Usain Bolt in 2009, while the womens world record is 10.49 seconds set by American Florence Griffith-Joyner in 1988.
