Good likeness in a portrait of course is very important but in this video I want to show you there is more. How I try to make a more interesting and animated portrait. Drawing skills of course are very important butfor those who cannot rely on it I have some useful tips during this video. There are a number ofsimple things that you can think of. Like a pallette that invites you to paint. I will explain theimportance of reducing tonal values, also reducing the number of brush strokes. About the danger of anover elaborated portrait. I show you why my friend played Bach on the piano and also I show youwhat my guitar has to do with portrait painting. Welcome to my studio. You can see the daylightlamps above my head. On the easel my self-prepared panel and my vertical palette. On the right thepaint and the turps in which I rinse my brushes. On the left more brushes, kitchen paper and behind that on an elevated stand the chair for the model. I start the day early because I want to

| February 2019. Blotto printing is a fascinating art activity for young children. Kids revel in the processblobbing blots of paint, squeezing paint between layers of paper, and peeling the paper apart to reveal a surprise masterpiece.
Blottingremoving wet watercolor with an absorbent material such as crumpled clothheightens the highlights on Demuths glistening fruits.
A technique devised by Alexander Cozens, whereby an accidental mark or blot on the paper is used as the starting point for an imaginative landscape composition.
Blotting involves removing wet pigment with a sponge or a rag. In this painting, artist J.M.W. Turner used blotting to create the flickering illumination from a distant lighthouse at the middle left. Wet on Wet involves wetting the paper before applying color with a brush.
Painting is a way for children to do many important things: convey ideas, express emotion, use their senses, explore color, explore process and outcomes, and create aesthetically pleasing works and experiences.
This is a new technique I tried. Its painting with your brush but instead of strokes, you dab/put drops/blotch the paint on it and let the colors mix and spread on its own.
Drop paint on your paper in dots or blots. You dont have to worry about it being perfect, you can put it anywhere. If youd like to be a little more creative, you could try to drop it in a pattern. Keep in mind that you will be folding the paper so imagine an invisible line down the center.
