Welcome back to engVid. Here we are with a writing lesson. We are looking at the skill of showing, not telling, and itamp;#39;s going to transform your writing as long as you put it into practice afterwards. amp;quot;Show, not tell. Whatamp;#39;s he talking about?amp;quot; When weamp;#39;re writing we want to avoid simple statements that donamp;#39;t really add any description or flavour. For example: amp;quot; The man was stressed.amp;quot; [Snores] Boring. Instead, I want you to paint a picture, I really want you to describe the man is stressed without telling me that he is. So how can you do that? Weamp;#39;re kind of trying to avoid this word, and describe it instead. So whatamp;#39;s he doing? amp;quot; The man was fidgeting. Ah, heamp;#39;s fidgeting. Heamp;#39;s so stressed, he canamp;#39;t sort of stay still. And biting his nails.amp;quot; Okay? So pick out a couple of details that show how the person was. Next one: amp;quot; The room was messy.amp;quot; Again, it

Every piece of writing has its own structure or shape. The most common structure is that of the Body Paragraph, and, for the shape of those, I rely on the PEAS method: P = Point E = Evidence A = Analysis S = So What? Now, the first rule of paragraphing is One Paragraph = One Idea. PEAS Paragraphs and Transitions rwu.edu sites law files downloads PE rwu.edu sites law files downloads PE
Some jurisdictions refer to paragraphing in schools as having the P-E-E or P-E-A structure. These refer to Point-Evidence-Explanation or Point-Evidence-Analysis. In my teaching, I used to call this structure the Point-Proof-Explanation style.
PEE - point/evidence/explain. PEEL - point/evidence/explain/link to point. PEA - point/evidence/analysis. SEAL - state your point/evidence/analyse/link. Structuring a paragraph - Responding to a fiction text - Edexcel BBC bitesize guides revision BBC bitesize guides revision
Point, Evidence Explanation (PEE) Point. Your point will inform the reader what the main idea is for the paragraph. Evidence. For any point you make, you will need to provide evidence to back it up. Explanation. Once you present your evidence, you need to explain how the evidence supports your point.
It is useful to follow the PEA paragraph structure when analysing writing. This stands for POINT, EVIDENCE, ANALYSIS. So, you would first clearly state the point you wish to make, quote the writer to give an example of where this occurs and finally, show and explain how this quotation has the effect you are claiming.
Paragraph breaks should be visually clear. There should either be white space in between paragraphs, or each paragraphs first line should be indented on the left. On the web, its generally easiest to type an extra return between each paragraph to create white space.
Pepper with P.E.E. For each new paragraph, you should make your point, provide evidence and explain your thoughts. You should use a new paragraph for each of your points, and provide further evidence and explanation to back up your ideas. 5 point plan for structuring extended responses - BBC BBC bitesize articles zhpnvj6 BBC bitesize articles zhpnvj6
