Use the abbreviation p. (for one page) or pp. (for multiple pages) before listing the page number(s). Use an en dash for page ranges. For example, you might write (Jones, 1998, p. 199) or (Jones, 1998, pp. 199201). This information is reiterated below.
Include page numbers in the citation when you refer to a specific section in the source. Exclude page numbers when you refer to a larger section or to an entire work. Add a comma after the year and use p. for a single page and pp.
If you do need to include page numbers, the page number will go at the end of the in-text citation following a comma. To create the in-text citation, you will need this information: Author surname. Publication year.
Citing page numbers Include page numbers in the citation when you refer to a specific section in the source. Exclude page numbers when you refer to a larger section or to an entire work. Add a comma after the year and use p. for a single page and pp.
In-text citations include the last name of the author followed by a page number enclosed in parentheses. Heres a direct quote (Smith 8).
The APA format reference page includes a separate entry for each source used as a reference in the writing. Each entry should include the sources author or authors, date of publication, and title, as well as where to find it if applicable (for example, a URL).
For every in-text citation in your paper, there must be a corresponding entry in your reference list. APA in-text citation style uses the authors last name and the year of publication, for example: (Field, 2005). For direct quotations, include the page number as well, for example: (Field, 2005, p. 14).
When paraphrasing, you must still acknowledge where you got the idea from by including a parenthetical citation. When citing paraphrased information, APA requires you to include the author and date. It is also recommended (but not required) that you include the page number.
