Extract/Unzip Zipped Files When you extract files from a zipped folder, a new folder with the same name is created which contains the files. The compressed (zipped) version also remains. Right-click the zipped folder saved to your computer. Choose Extract All (an extraction wizard will begin).
The general rule of thumb is if you can view the file in a text editor like notepad (ie. .html, . js, . css files etc) you should upload in ASCII mode, most others (including images, sound files, video, zip files, executables etc) should be uploaded in Binary.
Binary files are not human readable and require a special program or hardware processor that knows how to read the data inside the file. Only then can the instructions encoded in the binary content be understood and properly processed. The following screenshot shows part of the content from a file on a Mac computer.
Is a compressed file binary? All files are binary because computers express information as sequences of 0s or 1s. Therefore, a compressed file is also binary. You can run a hexdump program from the command line to see what the binary contents of any file are (in base 16).
You cannot open a BIN file directly; in order to use it, you will need to either burn it to a disc or mount it to a virtual drive. You can also convert the BIN file into an ISO file, which allows you to use many more programs to burn or mount it.
To open a bin file in Windows 10, you can use a few different applications. You can use third-party programs like 7-Zip, WinZip, or WinRAR to open and extract the contents of the bin file. You can also use the Windows Command Prompt to view the contents of a bin file.
