These are the words that were written on the wall: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPARSIN. This is what these words mean: Mene : God has counted the days until your kingdom will end. Tekel : You have been weighed on the scales and found not good enough. Uparsin : Your kingdom is being taken from you.
Daniel reads the words MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN and interprets them for the king: MENE, God has numbered the days of your kingdom and brought it to an end; TEKEL, you have been weighed and found wanting; and UPHARSIN, your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians.
The note of guilt is the record of our sins. People sin by obeying the traditions and customs of men which causes them to break the commandments of God (Matthew 15:1-3; Mark 7:7-9). This handwriting of ordinances this note of sinful guilt was nailed by Christ to the stake or cross.
a stain or reproach ( Job 31:7 ; Proverbs 9:7 ). To blot out sin is to forgive it ( Psalms 51:1 Psalms 51:9 ; Isaiah 44:22 ; Acts 3:19 ). Christs blotting out the handwriting of ordinances was his fulfilling the law in our behalf ( Colossians 2:14 ).
While a king was holding the Jews (see also Jews ) captive in the foreign land of Babylon (see also Babylon ), in the sixth century b.c. , a mysterious hand appeared, writing on the wall of the kings palace. The king called upon Daniel, who interpreted it to mean that God intended the king and his kingdom to fall.
This expression comes from the Bible (Daniel 5:531), in which the prophet interprets some mysterious writing that a disembodied hand has inscribed on the palace wall, telling King Belshazzar that he will be overthrown.
If you say that the writing is on the wall, you mean that there are clear signs that a situation is going to become very difficult or unpleasant.
