To link the CSS to an HTML file, we use the tag inside the HTML section. Your CSS file will look like the image displayed below: Lets look at another example where you add an image using CSS. Note: Make sure that the image file is in the same folder as the CSS and HTML files.
The /* */ comment syntax is used for both single and multiline comments. There is no other way to specify comments in external style sheets. However, when using the element, you may use to hide CSS from older browsers, although this is not recommended.
CSS can be applied to HTML or XHTML using three methods: linked, embedded, and inline. In the linked method, the CSS is stored in a separate file, instead of directly in the HTML page. In the embedded method, CSS is stored as part of the HTML page, in the header section.
To insert a line break: Type where the line break should occur.
18.1. XHTML allows authors to associate any number of external style sheets with a document. The style sheet language defines how multiple external style sheets interact (for example, the CSS cascade rules). Authors may specify a number of mutually exclusive style sheets called alternate style sheets.
CSS can be added to HTML documents in 3 ways: Inline - by using the style attribute inside HTML elements. Internal - by using a element in the section.
Basic steps in defining a CSS style sheet for XML : Define the style rules for the text elements such as font-size, color, font-weight, etc. Define each element either as a block, inline or list element, using the display property of CSS. Identify the titles and bold them.
The style element allows an author to put style sheet rules in the head of the document. XHTML permits any number of style elements in the head section of a document. The syntax of style data depends on the style sheet language. Rules for style rule precedences and inheritance depend on the style sheet language.
