THE RED LINE IS BACK ON TRACK, BUT THE PROJECT IS FAR FROM SHOVEL READY. STATE AND FEDERAL OFFICIALS WERE FIRST REVIEWED. THE ORIGINAL PLAN TO DETERMINE WHAT PARTS OF IT ARE STILL USABLE. AN UPDATED ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STUDY MUST BE DONE, AND THE GOVERNOR WANTS LOTS OF COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT. WE NEED TO KNOW FROM THE COMMUNITY WHAT DO THEY WANT TO SEE? DO THEY WANT TO SEE LIGHT RAIL OR BUS RAPID TRANSIT? ARE WE LOOKING AT A TUNNEL THROUGH DOWNTOWN OR SURFACE RUNNING OPTIONS? THE MTA PLANS TO HOLD TWO ROUNDS OF PUBLIC HEARINGS JULY AND AUGUST. THEN IN OCTOBER AND NOVEMBER, THE DATES, TIMES AND LOCATIONS HAVE NOT BEEN DETERMINED. LOCAL TRANSPORTATION ADVOCACY GROUPS SUPPORT THIS APPROACH. I THINK IT SHOULD START FROM THAT PLAN.
