How to redact PII?

Answer: Make a photocopy of the document you dont want to redact the original. On the photocopy, use a black marker to conceal the PII that you want to redact. Photocopy the redacted document. Save the 1st photocopy (with the black ink redaction) with the original, to show the redaction effort.

How to identify PII data?

Personal identification numbers: social security number (SSN), passport number, drivers license number, taxpayer identification number, patient identification number, financial account number, or credit card number. Personal address information: street address, or email address. Personal telephone numbers.

How to send an email with PII?

If the body of the email contains PII, the top and bottom of the email must include the marking CUI, and it should include a CUI indicator block. Must be digitally signed and encrypted. (Note: Digitally signing an email is NOT the same as appending a signature block to the bottom of the outgoing message contents.)
