in this video we review the differences between the optimal and rapid automatic exposure settings on bio-rad imaging systems running image lab touch software you may have noticed that there are two auto exposure options in the image lab touch interface these options provide flexibility in image capture for most plots we recommend using the optimal auto exposure setting which uses longer exposure times to increase sensitivity and maximize dynamic range without saturated pixels in some cases the software will combine data from multiple exposures resulting in an image with a greater dynamic range than a single exposure although the optimal auto exposure setting may take longer the resulting images have the greatest dynamic range with no saturated pixels perfect for quantitation with the rapid auto exposure setting on the other hand the system calculates an exposure time with a wider range of acceptable pixel intensities this setting works very quickly but the image is more likely
