welcome everyone uh itamp;#39;s my pleasure to uh welcome Kira goldner Kira is a PhD student at University of Washington and Kira works on algorithmic mechanism design among other things and today sheamp;#39;s going to tell us about uh the FedEx problem thanks um okay so this is Joint work with and a Carin andas cups okay so the setting weamp;#39;re weamp;#39;re talking about is where you have a customer who has a package to ship and the customer has some value of how much itamp;#39;s worth to them to have the package shipped and she has a deadline that she needs it by and sheamp;#39;s indifferent if it arrives early she just wants her package received by the deadline and this uh joint Distribution on the value deadline pairs um is known by FedEx and so what they want to do is they want to maximize their revenue by offering a discrete set of shipping options um to try and segment their market and extract revenue from the people with the different deadlines so the question
