hey everybody and welcome back to the epilogue studio today weamp;#39;re gonna take a look at laser engraving some MDF and some acrylic to make a couple of stamps for D Boston leather we already have some pre-cut leather patches we just need to engrave and cut some stamps to go with them weamp;#39;ve prepared some graphics for our stamps the main thing to remember here is that you need to mirror your graphic so that when you stamp into the leather the impression that is left on the leather reads correctly weamp;#39;re also going to make sure that our stamps are the same size and shape as our leather patches and this is just gonna make it a bit easier later on when weamp;#39;re trying to line up our stamps weamp;#39;re engraving into a piece of MDF and a piece of clear acrylic weamp;#39;ve masked both of these materials to help keep the surface of our stamps as clean as possible you donamp;#39;t need to do this weamp;#39;re gonna end up cleaning our engraving anyway but

In case of hard metals, any mistake leaves irreversible effects. In soft metals like gold, any erroneous engraving can be corrected by suitable polishing. Any engraving related mistake in case of metal plating or rough surface may not be useful.
Use caution when handling materials after engraving. The process can leave burrs and small fragments on metal surfaces and other materials. To smooth rough edges, use a polishing cloth or finishing grit sand paper (360-600 grit) to gently sand them down.
Once the engraving is lasered off, the ring will need to be polished to restore it to a smooth blank surface. While this procedure is fairly easy to do with metals such as sterling silver, gold, platinum, and stainless steel, this becomes much trickier with gold or silver plated items.
Make an engraved area on wood and MDF really stand out by using shoe polish to darken the engraved area.
Beginning with the finest sandpaper start to buff the engraved area, stopping to wash and buff dry at regular intervals and increasing the grit until the engraving is gone. If even the most coarse grit sandpaper is not removing the engraving, use a metal file.
Optional Polishing: If the metal appears tarnished or lacks its former shine, you can apply a non-abrasive metal polishing compound. Use a small amount on a soft cloth and gently buff the metal in circular motions.
Removing an engraving isnt super expensive, typically its the same price as polishing, but depends on the material of the ring. Removal can usually be done in one day. Its important to note that the process of removing an engraving may not always result in a completely restored appearance.
