so an engraving is almost the exact opposite of a woodcut you take a piece of metal usually copper and itamp;#39;s beautifully polished so you can see the reflection in it and you use tools which are called Burenamp;#39;s and you actually gouge out little slivers of the copper using an enormous amount of manual control you in size lines across and into the surface of the metal by varying the amount of pressure you can change the character of the line that youamp;#39;re actually in sizing into the metal so if you press very gently you get a relatively shallow in size line and that would in the end print as a fine blind in the engraving but if you use a little more pressure then the Burin goes deeper into the metal it gorges out a deeper incised line into the surface and when you print it eventually that will hold more ink and youamp;#39;ll end up with a darker thicker black line and you can see here from the pressure of the hand itamp;#39;s really very difficult to gouge out these
