Escape * by using \* instead Markdown is quite sensitive to whitespace.
markdown documents, certain characters such as apostrophes, quotation marks, ellispses and percent signs need to be escaped using \.
Escaping BackTicks in Inline Code Blocks You can also escape backticks in inline code blocks by using double backticks for the code delimiter. Notice the extra spacing - this is necessary only if you start or end with a backtick. Not pretty but if you have to do it this is quite the life saver.
To display a literal character that would otherwise be used to format text in a Markdown document, add a backslash ( \ ) in front of the character. \* Without the backslash, this would be a bullet in an unordered list.
The way to escape a special character is to add a backslash before it, e.g., I do not want \italic text\ here . Similarly, if # does not indicate a section heading, you may write \# This is not a heading .
You can also escape backticks in inline code blocks by using double backticks for the code delimiter. Notice the extra spacing - this is necessary only if you start or end with a backtick. Not pretty but if you have to do it this is quite the life saver.
Depending on your Markdown processor or editor, youll use three backticks ( ``` ) or three tildes ( ~~~ ) on the lines before and after the code block. The best part? You dont have to indent any lines! Tip: Need to display backticks inside a code block?
