Graft impingement occurs when the graft prematurely contacts the bone of the femoral intercondylar notch before the knee docHubes full extension [7].
Decreased Range of Motion: Graft failure can lead to stiffness and decreased range of motion in the knee joint. Patients may have difficulty fully extending or flexing the knee, which can affect their ability to perform activities of daily living.
The short answer is yes. After the pain and swelling subsides and if there is no other injury to your knee, you may be able to walk in straight lines, go up and down stairs and even potentially jog in a straight line. The ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) is an important ligament that provides stability to the knee.
The purpose of a graft in ACL reconstruction surgery is to replace the torn ligament after injury. It is not possible to repair a ruptured ACL by suturing it back together and achieve a consistently stable knee. There are three common choices for a graft: allograft, patellar tendon and hamstring.
After surgery, recovery time usually takes a minimum of 9 months. This includes the initial healing phases postsurgery and physical therapy. Its very important to wait until your ACL reconstruction has healed completely before returning to sports in order to prevent reinjury.
An ACL graft tear is a partial or complete discontinuity of the graft and accounts for graft failure.
Signs of ACL graft failure? The signs of ACL graft failure can include swelling, pain within the knee, locking within the knee, a mechanical block (which can be due to a bucket-handle tear of the meniscus), lack of full motion, and difficulty with twisting, turning, and pivoting.
Imaging studies such as MRI can help assess the integrity of the reconstructed ACL graft and identify signs of graft failure, such as graft laxity or abnormal signal intensity.
