In Word, each page automatically has a one-inch margin. You can customize or choose predefined margin settings, set margins for facing pages, allow extra margin space to allow for document binding, and change how margins are measured.
The top, bottom, and right margins are required to be 1 inch, but the left margin can either be 1 inch or 1.25 inches. All body text, tables, figures, appendices content, and any copies of published chapters must fit within the required 1-inch margins on all sides.
In typography, a margin is the area between the main content of a page and the page edges. The margin helps to define where a line of text begins and ends. When a page is justified the text is spread out to be flush with the left and right margins.
Standard margin is a measure of the money that is leftover from the gross margin after deducting an estimate of the companys fixed costs. This can include expenses like utility bills, rent or property tax, wages, insurance, and maintenance.
Select the text you want to comment on, or click at the end of the text. On the Review tab, click New Comment. Type your comment. Word shows your comment in a balloon in the documents margin.
Click the Margin Note button and select Create from the drop-down list. A two-column table will be placed in the document with the text of the paragraph in the right hand table cell. If Table Gridlines are turned on in Word, youll see a dotted outline of the table.
Both the MLA and APA style guides require 1-inch margins on the top, bottom and both sides of the page. In most cases, when you open Microsoft Word, the margins will already be set to 1-inch. To be sure you have the margins set to 1-inch: Click on the Page Layout tab.
Place your cursor at the point youd like to insert the margin note. Click the Margin Note button and select Create from the drop-down list.
Marginalia (or apostils) are marks made in the margins of a book or other document. They may be scribbles, comments, glosses (annotations), critiques, doodles, drolleries, or illuminations.
Typically margins are about 1 inch (25.4 mm) on all sides of the document, which is the default setting for most word-processing programs. If you are using Microsoft Word, you can turn to its built-in Letter Wizard for additional formatting assistance (look on the Tools menu).
