A margin is the empty space between a documents contents and the edges of the page. Words default margins are 1 inch on each side of the page, but you can change the margins to accommodate the needs of your document.
Adjusting margins in Page Setup Click File and select Page Setup. Now you can change each margin by clicking a box and typing a new measurement. Click OK when youre done. The default margins are set to one inch on each side. The default margins take effect whenever you create a new document.
Change margins in your document to change the layout and make sure everything fits. Select Layout Margins. Select the margin measurements you want. Note: If your document contains multiple sections, the new margins apply only to the selected sections.
Page margins should be consistent throughout the text. Required Margins: The top, bottom, and right margins are required to be 1 inch, but the left margin can either be 1 inch or 1.25 inches.
Most famous among these is the golden ratio , which is approximately 1.618 : 1. For instance, if you set page margins of 2.23 on all four sides of 8.5 11 paper, the proportions of your text block will be close to the golden ratio.
Tap on the three-dot Menu icon in the upper-right corner. Tap Page setup. Tap Margins. Choose Narrow, Default, Wide or Custom. If you choose to customize your margins, tap the number on each side of the document and enter the appropriate measurement.
For a general audience, standard margins (1 inch) provide a professional look. For academic or formal documents, wider margins (1.5 inches) offer space for annotations. Narrower margins (0.5-0.75 inches) suit designs emphasizing visuals or for presentations.
Margins. It is recommended to have a one inch margin on all sides of the paper for legal documents. This provides sufficient border space to allow for binding while still maximizing the use of the page. Larger margins are acceptable, but margins smaller than one inch may be rejected by a court.
