hello and welcome to session 16 in our class basics of biblical archaeology today weamp;#39;re going to finish up and our focus is going to be on an inscription called the ishbaal inscription I was going to try to squeeze in another inscription um but I wonamp;#39;t really do that weamp;#39;ll just stick with this one this will be enough um but the reading that Iamp;#39;ll have you do relates to the inscription that I was going to have you um uh look at more carefully here in our time in the class but reading that will give you a good background on that inscription so weamp;#39;re going to start with a look at the provenience of the inscription and thatamp;#39;s a fancy word to say where did it come from um we know exactly where it came from and inscriptions are considered to be um viewed much in a much um higher way much better way if we know exactly where they came from in the ground because we can um date it we can lock it into a place we can relate it to the the other objects
