uh today i wanted to talk about uh diagnosing and repairing a um half gray jpeg file itamp;#39;s probably one of the more common issues and there can be several causes and depending on the cause we may be able to repair it or not so weamp;#39;ll be working with this file so we see a large uh grayish the color depends on where exactly the um the image is cut so it can be gray can be black it can be bluish whatever kind of color it was decoding at the point where it uh where the image breaks essentially okay so itamp;#39;s a reasonably common issue and itamp;#39;s pretty easy to diagnose and once we know whatamp;#39;s wrong with it itamp;#39;s often pretty easy to fix this is the image as i received it from a customer this is the image looks exactly the same though the class is entirely different than this one the first thing that can happen is that a image file is cut cut off itamp;#39;s literally the the file size is reduced so if we look at this one we see itamp;#39;s 5.8 mega

JPEG files (compressed images) start with an image marker which always contains the marker code hex values FF D8 FF. It does not have a length of the file embedded, thus we need to find JPEG trailer, which is FF D9.
The file header (14 bytes) contains information about file size and location at which data is stored. The Image header (40 bytes*) tells information about rows and columns of an image, bits per pixel, type of compression used if any. Pixel data is written in bottom to top fashion.
The header part of a JPEG file is divided into segments, and each segment starts with a marker, identifying the segment. Usually a JPEG file contains 7 different markers. A marker is a pair of bytes, the first is 255 and the second is different from 0 and 255.
To do this, follow the steps below. First, open your hex editor on your computer. Next, import the JPEG file you created into the Hex Editor alongside the corrupt or damaged image file. Jot down the correct header information from the JPEG file you recently created.
The first two bytes of every JPEG stream are the Start Of Image (SOI) marker values FFh D8h. In a JFIF-compliant file there is a JFIF APP0 (Application) marker, immediately following the SOI, which consists of the marker code values FFh E0h and the characters JFIF in the marker data, as described in the next section.
File TypeHeader (Hex)Header (ASCII/Unicode) jpg FF D8 FF E0 bmp 42 4D BM avi 52 49 46 46 xx xx xx xx 41 56 49 20 4C 49 53 54 RIFF. AVI LIST wav 52 49 46 46 xx xx xx xx 57 41 56 45 66 6D 74 20 RIFF. WAVEfmt6 more rows
Alternately, the manual method of jpeg header repair is as follows: Examine a correct jpeg header in a hex editor. Open the bad jpeg header in the hex editor to compare. If both are different, then replace the bad header with the correct one. After replacement, the rectified jpeg file opens normally.
