Assuming you mean the pound sterling symbol (), and not the hash (#) sign which some Americans refer to as a pound sign, you can enter it in your stylesheet using the XML character reference #xa3; (thats # x a 3 ; in case of email corruptions).

The XML data does not get mapped if the value within the element starts on a new line with leading spaces. A single exclamation mark (!) removes the leading white space. To keep the space, use two exclamation marks (!!).
