A very high LPI will make those lines go away but will take a lot longer. If you are engraving a flat design you can go as fast as possible and adjust the power to need. If you are engraving an image it gets trickier but a dot matrix and high LPI will do the best job but take a lot of time.
This is when the laser leaves behind a series of lines that spoil the engraving. The cause is usually an incorrect focus or dirty optics. To fix this, simply clean the lenses and adjust the focus until the lines disappear.
Reduce Chipping and Roughness when Laser Engraving Dithering: Applying a Jarvis dithering pattern in your laser driver settings will randomize and separate the dots of your artwork. Separating the dots will use less heat by the laser, and applying the Jarvis dithering pattern will create a smoother look when engraved.
Unfortunately, laser marking removal is not easy. Industrial laser systems are designed to create long-lasting codes that are durable enough to last the entire product lifecycle. Consequently, laser marking removal requires some labor-intensive steps that differ from material to material.
Engraving: A speed of 150 mm/s and a power of 15% is a good starting point for laser engraving basswood. Cutting: A speed of 100 mm/s and a power of 40% is a good starting point for cutting basswood with the Monport 80W laser engraver.
Beginning with the finest sandpaper start to buff the engraved area, stopping to wash and buff dry at regular intervals and increasing the grit until the engraving is gone. If even the most coarse grit sandpaper is not removing the engraving, use a metal file.
Raster engraving is created by the laser scanning the engraved areas very much as a printer does, filling the area to be engraved line by line. Vector engraving, on the other hand, is created more like a line drawing. The laser follows the vector lines and draws them as a single line.
