How much notice must employees provide? Employers typically request reasonable advance notice for vacation time, such as one weeks notice for short vacations (one or two days). Employers often require more notice for longer vacations (such as one months notice for vacations lasting three or more days).

Rule 4: How Far In Advance Time-Off Requests Need To Be Made A minimum of two weeks lead time is a good starting point for most businesses, although you can change that to fit your particular needs. You could also set a date each month after which requests will not be accepted.
The first and most practical action you can take is to speak directly with your supervisor. The goal of this conversation should be to understand why the request was denied and what, if anything, you can do to have it approved. It can help to think of this conversation as a negotiation.
