[Music] this is me 10 years ago and in this world record race at the london olympic games i ran a personal best of 142.95 this is still the fifth fastest time ever by an american and this is me today 10 years later 40 pounds heavier im the strongest ive ever been in my life and im about to enter my very first power lifting competition the sport of powerlifting is made up of three lifts max back squat max bench press and of course max deadlift now the last time i tried this i was able to lift a cumulative total of a thousand pounds in todays competition i have two goals to pr in every event and to lift a cumulative total of eleven hundred pounds when i showed up at the expo center the first thing i saw was a bunch of bodybuilders and i was just hoping that they werent in my competition and that i didnt have to lift naked on stage next i had to clear all of my equipment with the meat officials including my apparel unbeknownst to me at a powerlifting competition you have to lift in

To calculate an overall winner at a powerlifting meet, you need a way to compare lifters in different weight classes. So, how do you do that? In short, it comes down to something called the Dots Score. The Dots Score is simply a ratio between a lifters body weight and the weight theyre lifting.

The Dots Score is simply a ratio between a lifters body weight and the weight theyre lifting. Higher numbers are better. Also referred to as a coefficient, the dots score allows us to compare a lifters strength relative to their body weight.
A score of 400+ makes you strong for a powerlifter, putting you in the top 250 powerlifters, while 500+ is the very top, as far as unequipped powerlifting goes, including the top 30.
Being very accurate and precise, the DOTS Score is widely adopted by many major federations, including the USAPL and USPA. It is mostly used to declare the best overall lifter in the non-master category. You can easily determine your overall strength in a meet across all categories by using a DOTS Score Calculator.
With time and work you should still be able to get to squat 400 lbs, bench 275 lbs, and deadlift 450. Decent: you like lifting and put on muscle at about an average rate, and can spend a few years tweaking your lifts and workouts to get better. Squat: 450, bench: 305, deadlift: 520.
