Whats the difference? A Pap test checks for abnormal cervical cells in the cervix that could lead to cervical cancer if left untreated. An HPV screening checks for high-risk types of HPV that are more likely to cause pre-cancers of the cervix, which is part of a womans reproductive system.
DNA of HPV is detected in the laboratory using a Real Time PCR machine, operated by a skilled technician.
In addition, a Pap may check for certain sexually transmitted infections, such as, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia and Trichomonas. Some Pap tests also evaluate for infections such as Yeast and Bacterial Vaginosis.

This test reliably detects changes in the DNA present due to cancer-cell development. As with regular cancer screenings up until now, the gynecologist performs a Pap smear on the patient, taking a swab from the cervix. This sample is then sent to a lab where the PCR-based test is performed.
A Pap test screens for cancer of the cervix (the passageway between the vagina and the uterus). A Pap test can also be used to screen for non-visible (subclinical) human papilloma virus (HPV) infection. The Pap test is not a specific test for HPV, although sometimes the results suggest that HPV might be present.
Pathological complete response (pCR) is defined as the absence of residual invasive. cancer on hematoxylin and eosin evaluation of the complete resected breast specimen and. all sampled regional lymph nodes following completion of neoadjuvant systemic therapy.
For most women the virus clears naturally in one to two years. However, in some cases HPV may take longer to clear from the body, increasing the risk of developing cervical cancer. If HPV is found, additional tests will automatically be done on the same sample of cells in the laboratory.
