Hey! Welcome back to the MrExcel netcast. Iamp;#39;m Bill Jelen. Today, we have a question was asked by Rod. Rodamp;#39;s from Cincinnati. He was at the power analyst boot camp in Chicago, last week. Thought it was a pretty interesting question and it actually took us a little bit of time to get it working properly. So, I want to go through, whatamp;#39;s up there. He basically had a series of different workbooks for different departments. In my example, I just have Apple, Banana, Cherry, Eggplant, Grapes and Kale and on the summary page. He wanted to be able to selectively grab numbers from a certain worksheet, based on a value that the person chose. So, he set up a little data validation here with a list and they could choose one of the departments and when they chose that department he wanted the formulas to go grab values from that certain worksheet. Go to the Data tab in the Excel ribbon, and click on Edit Links in the Connections group. The Edit Links dialog box will open, which shows all the linked workbooks that are used in the current workbook. This dialog box will show you all the external links as well as the internal links.
Select a cell in the column you want to sort. Click on the Data tab in your toolbar. Click Sort A to Z if you want to sort in alphabetical order or ascending order. Alternatively, click Sort Z to A if you want to sort in a reverse alphabetical order or in descending order.
For those who dont know, pressing Ctrl + [ takes you directly to the cell being referenced.
You can use the ADDRESS function to obtain the address of a cell in a worksheet, given specified row and column numbers. For example, ADDRESS(2,3) returns $C$2. As another example, ADDRESS(77,300) returns $KN$77.
Click the cell in which you want to enter the formula. In the formula bar. , type = (equal sign) and the formula you want to use. Click the tab for the worksheet to be referenced. Select the cell or range of cells to be referenced.
Lookup And Return Cell Address Using the ADDRESS Function The ADDRESS function in Excel is meant to exactly this. It takes the row and the column number and gives you the cell address of that specific cell. where: rownum: Row number of the cell for which you want the cell address.
Follow the steps below to parse address data in Excel: Select Your Column: Click the letter above the column you want to separate to highlight the entire column: Convert Text to Columns: Click Data along the top of the screen, then click the Text to Columns feature from the formula bar:
Select Data Text to Columns. In the Convert Text to Columns Wizard, select Delimited Next. Select the Delimiters for your data. For example, Comma and Space.
