Scholarly articles. Academic articles. Peer reviewed articles. You may have heard these terms used by your professor, but what do they mean? Essentially, these are all different ways of describing the same thing: research articles that have been published in scholarly journals. But what is a research article, and how does it get published in a scholarly journal? First of all, the article reports a scholars research practice and findings. And, its written with an audience of other researchers in mind. Finally, in order to be published and accepted by the scholarly community, the article must pass several quality tests. The most important of these tests is called peer review. We can get a better understanding of the role of peer review if we look at the academic publishing process as a whole. Lets imagine a researcher who wants to share a discovery with the academic community. To do this, he writes a draft article describing his research and findings and submits it for publication in

The report indicates that the loss of FirstEnergys overloaded Sammis-Star line triggered the cascade. Its 345-kV line into northern Ohio from eastern Ohio began tripping out because the lines were in contact with overgrown trees. The loss of the line created major and unsustainable burdens on lines in adjacent areas.
On August 14, 2003, a series of faults caused by tree branches touching power lines in Ohio, which were then complicated by human error, software issues, and equipment failures, led to the most widespread blackout in North American history.
SHORT TERM MEMORY TEST A person in a blackout will not remember something that happened a few minutes ago. Thus, if the person doesnt seem to know what you are talking about or has no memory of what happened, assume they are in a blackout and do NOT leave them alone.
If you have had a complete blackout, you will likely not be able to remember anything from the experience. With a fragmentary blackout, you may have some recollection of events, and you may be able to recall certain memories with cueing (meaning verbal or visual reminders of the events).
A blackout is a loss of the ability to make memories, but people are still conscious when theyre blackout drunk. They can still walk and talk, although they may do so drunkenly. It happens quite often, too.
Someone who has blacked out may simply act intoxicated, unaware of how impaired their mind is. Symptoms of blackouts are exhibited through confusion about surrounding events, losing train of thought, or misunderstanding normal speech.
That means a blackout could last minutes to even days. Although many people recover from blackouts, one episode can be fatal.
Answer: Blacking out is a loss of memory - not being able to remember what happened because your brain has lost the ability to form new memories due to intoxication. Passing out is losing consciousness and not being able to be awakened.
