Leaving without giving notice Its best not to leave your home without giving notice or getting your landlords agreement to leave. Your tenancy wont have ended and youll still have to pay your rent until you end your tenancy in the right way. You might also have to pay other bills - for example, council tax.
In Ontario, you must provide the landlord with a written notice to terminate the tenancy at least 60 days before the last day of a rental period.
If you pay rent by the day or week, you must give 28 days notice (for example, if you want to leave on March 1, you have to give notice by February 1). If you pay rent by the month, you must generally give 60 days notice. If your lease is fixed for a period longer than a month, you must generally give 60 days notice.
In the absence of a written document setting out the conditions of the tenancy, the most common bdocHub is non-payment of rent. This is the one contractual obligation a tenant has that cannot be disputed. Some landlords may be willing to forgive a late payment or two, but this is a matter for personal discretion.
