Learn first aid for someone who is unresponsive and not breathing Check breathing by tilting their head back and looking and feeling for breaths. Call 999 as soon as possible. Give chest compressions: push firmly downwards in the middle of the chest and then release.

Call or tell someone to call 911 or the local emergency number. Check the persons airway, breathing, and pulse frequently. If necessary, begin CPR. If the person is breathing and lying on their back, and you do not think there is a spinal injury, carefully roll the person toward you onto their side.
What Not to Do When Someone Faints Slap someone who has fainted. Shake someone who was fainted. Throw water on them. Shout at them. Attempt to move them. Place a pillow under their head. Make them sit or stand up.
Position the person on his or her back. If there are no injuries and the person is breathing, raise the persons legs above heart level about 12 inches (30 centimeters) if possible. Loosen belts, collars or other constrictive clothing. To reduce the chance of fainting again, dont get the person up too quickly.
In assessing your first-aid needs, you should consider: the nature of the work you do. workplace hazards and risks (including specific hazards requiring special arrangements) the nature and size of your workforce.
If the person isnt breathing, call 999 for an ambulance and then begin CPR.
