I find that theres sometimes a little bit of confusion when it comes to the difference between granting ownership of a copyright and granting a license. So heres kind of the difference. Granting ownership of a copyright is exactly what it sounds like you are granting ownership of whatever that creative work is. Now, it might be via work for hire and it might be via assignment and those -- that term, work for hire, is often used incorrectly. There are only certain circumstances where creation of something will qualify as a work for hire. But, regardless, granting ownership of a copyright grants ownership of that thing. Where it gets confusing is when you start talking about copyright licenses. A copyright license is otherwise known as permission to do something. And a copyright, remember, is a bundle of different rights, so, the right to copy it, the right to distribute, the right to sell, and display, and all kinds of other things. So you can license each of those rights to differ

Copyright licensing is one way to use material without infringing. Licensing is a common way for copyright owners to grant permission to others to use their copyright material on specified terms. If you want to use material that is owned by someone else you usually need permission.
License agreements can be simple or complicated. Every license agreement is a legally binding contract between the licensor and licensee. The licensor grants the right to make goods and sell them using the trademark, technology, or other intellectual property to the licensee.
In most cases, licensors prefer a royalty rate that falls within 25% to 75% range of the sublicensing income. Their stake usually amounts to more than half of all profits. In rare cases, the licensee can negotiate a rate split and apply their own royalty obligation to the sale of sub-licensed products.
Because open source licenses flow directly from the author/owner to the licensee, the only party in a legal position to enforce the GPL is the author or owner of the copyright. Intermediate distributors do not have the power to enforce except with respect to any contribution they may make.
Open source software licenses are not contracts. Theyre permissions granted to the entire world. So they dont need much customization. Contracts generally do call for customization.
this Agreement is legal, valid, binding on, and enforceable against each Party when fully and mutually executed and delivered.
If you want others to use, distribute, modify, or contribute back to your project, you need to include an open source license. For example, someone cannot legally use any part of your GitHub project in their code, even if its public, unless you explicitly give them the right to do so.
Generally, there are three types of licensing agreements: exclusive, sole, or non-exclusive. In an exclusive license, the licensee is only the party that can use the licensed intellectual property.
