The basic structure consists of a sequence of chunks comprising a local file header followed by the file data (after compression and/or encryption) followed by a chunk known as the central directory, which lists the files in the package along with key metadata to support their extraction, decryption, etc.
Each entry stored in a ZIP archive is introduced by a local file header with information about the file such as the comment, file size and file name, followed by optional extra data fields, and then the possibly compressed, possibly encrypted file data.
The Zip disk is about the same size as a floppy disk but is, instead, a little thicker. It uses magnetic storage in the same way hard drives and floppy disks do, but it holds 100 to 750 MB of data, which is much greater than that of a floppy disk.
Zip files are not text. They are just binary.
Extra fields The extra field fields are there to make the ZIP format extensible. These can for example be used to add extra metadata required for encryption or certain compression algorithms. One common extra field is the one with Header ID 0x5455, that is a UTC Unix timestamp.
They contain data and files together in one place. But with zipped files, the contents are compressed, which reduces the amount of data used by your computer. Another way to describe ZIP files is as an archive. The archive contains all the compressed files in one location.
Right-click on the file or folder. Select Compressed (zipped) folder. To place multiple files into a zip folder, select all of the files while hitting the Ctrl button. Then, right-click on one of the files, move your cursor over the Send to option and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
