alright letamp;#39;s talk about typography now unless youamp;#39;re like me and you canamp;#39;t order a meal at a restaurant without first completely analyzing the fonts on the menu I realized that understanding the difference between a serif font and a sans serif font and all of the vocabulary that comes with studying typography is most likely boring to you I also realized that trying to sum up the entirety of typography in one short video is completely impractical so let me give you the blitz version of typography and then Iamp;#39;ll provide some resources attached to this lecture for those of you whoamp;#39;d like to learn more but the goal here is to give you a quick and dirty overview of typography typography is one of the most important subjects for you to understand as a graphic designer and I realized I think Iamp;#39;ve said that about a dozen other topics or the most important but really typography is critical and like all disciplines within Art and Design it has a br

Almost all typesetting is now done by machine, with copy typed on a computer keyboard. In comparison with regular typing, typesetting allows for greater variation in physical appearance and arrangement, and there is greater emphasis on visual appeal.
When printed materials were first released, typesetters were responsible for cutting blocks of type out of wood or metal and arranging them onto plates to create printed broadsheets or books. Very few artisan booksellers today still work in this manner; most modern typesetters create type using digital technology.
Typesetting can be defined as the process of preparing and arranging text and images for printing. This process determines how the content on pages will appear in a variety of publications, including books, newspapers, and magazines.
The machine typesetting era began in 1886 and ended in 1976, and it is barely in practice (90 years). The phototypesetting era began in 1950 and ended around 1990, and it is totally gone (40 years). The laser imagesetting era began in 1978 and ended in 2008, replaced by direct-to-plate, on- and off-press (30 years).
The disciplines seem very similar at first sight, but they are more different than you can imagine. Lettering is used only for specific purposes, meaning that each design is written only once, and in a determined context. On the opposite, types letter shapes are usually the same in every context.
In typography, the arrangement of text and its presentation is based on the general rule of the language. Whereas in typesetting, the designing expert arranges and designs the text to improve its visual appeal. The typography arrangement may not necessarily follow the general rule of language.
Typesetting is the making of block-printed writing which is formed by using types grouped from sorts. Movable type on a composing stick on a type drawer. A specimen sheet issued by William Caslon, letter founder, from the 1728 edition of Cyclopaedia.
Using computers to typeset a document is also known as formatting. Typesetting includes carefully arranging text and images in preparation for printing. Because books are now digitally laid out, typesetters can also be graphic designers (and vice versa).
