Include the word redacted in square brackets in place of the name, word, or passage that has been redacted.
Cut-out (literally) all the text to be redacted and properly dispose of (shred) the clippings. This method will always be 100% effective. Use opaque (100% impenetrable by light; neither transparent nor translucent) tape or paper to cover over the sections to be redacted.
Text redaction includes blacking out, blurring out, deleting, or other means of hiding text in a document. Blacking out text is just one method of redacting text to hide sensitive information.
Select the text that needs to be redacted. You can do this by using the mouse to highlight the text, or by using keyboard shortcuts such as Ctrl + A to select all the text in a document. Use the formatting tools in your word processor to obscure or remove the selected text.
Taxpayer ID numbers, social security numbers, and employer ID numbers are redacted by leaving out everything but the last four numbers. For example: -xx-1234. Dates of birth are redacted by leaving out everything but the year. For example: xx/xx/1996.
Blacking Out Text Manually Click the drop-down arrow to the right of the ab highlighter icon in the Font section. Click the black box in the drop-down menu. Click the black line below the highlighter icon. Repeat this process of highlighting with black to cover text.
Redaction is permanently removing visible text and graphics from a document. You use the Redact a PDF tool to remove content. In place of the removed items, you can have redaction marks that appear as colored boxes or leave the area blank.
You can use an ellipsisthree consecutive periods, with one space around each ( . . . )to leave out extra or unnecessary words. The ellipsis represents information that you are omitting from a quotation.
