Do not include any names in any file names and ensure document properties are also anonymised. Do not include any author names or institution information in the Acknowledgements section of your manuscript. Author names and Funding information should be removed and can be re-added later in the peer review process.
Single-blind peer review is a conventional method of peer review where the authors do not know who the reviewers are. However, the reviewers know who the authors are. Whereas, double-blind peer review, is when neither authors nor reviewers know each others name or affiliations.
Make a recommendation The last step for a peer reviewer is making a recommendation of either accept, reject, revise, or transfer. Be sure that your recommendation reflects your review. A recommendation of acceptance upon first review is rare and only to be used if there is no room for improvement.
Ensuring Blind Peer Review The names of the authors are removed from the manuscript and all accompanying files. All references to institutions, cities, and countries are removed from the manuscript, images, appendixes, supplementary files, etc., and replaced with [redacted] or [blinded].
In the Bibliography, use (Author, Year), and leave out title, publisher, and any other information about your work. In the Funding section, remove names and affiliations. In the Acknowledgements section, remove anything that could identify authors or institutions, including words such as colleagues.
The file of blinded manuscript should include (Full articles title, abstract, keywords, body of the manuscript ing to its type, abbreviations, and references). The manuscripts lines should be numbered. Fonts recommended are Times New Roman and Arial, 12-point with spaces between lines of 1.5.
Most commonly the format is (1) Summary, (2) Decision, (3) Major Concerns, and (4) Minor Concerns (see also Structure Diagram above). There is also often a multiple choice form to rate the paper on a number of criteria.
In all comments you give, be specific, for instance by giving examples. pose questions when the text is unclear rather than just stating that it is unclear. aim to help the writer but do not try to write the paper for them.
