Before COVID, We were pretty manual with our processes. But when the pandemic hit, we knew that we needed a better way to docHub our patients in a more timely fashion. The second step was to be able to click a link once they authenticated themselves to then review the test result right there on their smartphone. A common weakness of patient satisfaction surveys is a suboptimal participation rate. Some patients may be unable to participate, because of language barriers, physical limitations, or mental problems.
What should a patient satisfaction survey include? How were your interactions with the doctor and office staff? How was the wait time? Did you get enough time with the doctor? How easy was it to schedule an appointment? What else do you want us to know? How do you improve your practice and the patient experience?
The hospital patient survey star rating uses a 5-star scale to make it easier for you to compare hospitals. More stars mean better quality care. The star ratings come from a patient experience of care survey called the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey.
The Picker Patient Experience Questionnaire (PPE-15) is a fifteen item questionnaire covering eight domains including information education and coordination of care. The PPE-15 was originally designed for use in inpatient care settings (Jenkinson 2002).
Your survey questions, then, should cover each of the three areas: quality issues (i.e., is the patient satisfied with his or her medical care?), access issues (i.e., is it easy to make an appointment or get a referral?), and interpersonal issues (i.e., are the physicians and staff caring and compassionate?).
Once the surveys are completed, the responses can be analyzed to determine the Patient Satisfaction Score. This score can be calculated by dividing the number of positive responses by the total number of responses and multiplying by 100 to get a percentage.
