The odds of a power blackout today is at 0.06%.
Rolling blackouts in developed countries sometimes occur due to economic forces at the expense of system reliability (such as in the 200001 California energy crisis), or during natural disasters such as heat waves. In California, rolling blackouts occurred in June 2000, January, March and May 2001, and August 2020.
States at high risk for blackouts include Maine, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Florida, all of which experience frequent severe weather events. Which state has the least power outages? Washington D.C. has the least power outages, with an average of 0.47 outages per year.

While Ontarios power system was restored within 30 hours, a state of emergency was in effect until August 22 while the provinces generation fleet was brought back to full production capability.
NYCdata | Disasters. One of the largest blackouts in New York City history occurred on a hot Thursday afternoon, August 14, 2003. It is believed to have originated in Ohio, after a bush fire caused a transmission line to go out of service at around 2:00 PM.
