If you know your Social Security information has been compromised, you can request to Block Electronic Access. This is done by calling our National 800 number (Toll Free 1-800-772-1213 or at our TTY number at 1-800-325-0778).
The SSN is a 10-digit number, issued by the Social Security Administration, a U.S. government agency, that is used to track tax payments and issuance of benefits for U.S. citizens, permanent residents (Green Card holders), and other resident and non-resident aliens with work authorization.
Social Security numbers can start with any number from 06. The numbers are broken down into three fields (aaabbcccc). The first field is called the area number, the second field is the group number and the last field is the serial number.
(a) Exclusion or redaction of identifiers If an individuals social security number is required in a pleading or other paper filed in the public file, only the last four digits of that number may be used.
