Most curtain panels come in standard lengths, typically 63 inches, 84 inches, 95 inches, and 108 inches. However, custom lengths are also available to accommodate various window sizes and design preferences, says Kerrie Kelly, CEO and creative director of Kerrie Kelly Studio.
Here are seven things you can do to get started. Hang Blackout Curtains or Liners. Photo: Pixel-Shot / docHub Stock. Blackout Shades or Blinds. a Tinted Film. Cover Your Window With Cardboard. Cover Your Window With Aluminum Foil. Cover Your Window With Black Fabric. Build an Awning. Tinted Windows.
Step by Step Guide to Measuring Your Window Remember, youll need your curtains width to be 1.5 to 2 times this measurement for full coverage. Measure the Height: Next, measure the height of your window from the top of the frame to the windowsill or the floor, depending on where you want your curtain to end.
You want those curtains to just kiss the floor or sit a touch above. That may mean hemming them. Then, figure out how many panels you need by measuring the width of the window and add 16-24 for the rod extension. Multiply that number by 1.5-2 depending on how full you want your curtains to look when theyre closed.
Grommet style or Rod-pocket style: To ensure that curtain panels look ample when closed, they should have a combined width that is 2 to 2.5 times the width of the window/rod. The total drapery width should be at least 2 times the window/rod widths.
For a 72 inch window, you need curtains with a finished width at least 1.5 times that, but better are those with twice that width and even three times the width for sheers. Therefore, for a 72 inch window, you need two panels of 72 inches each for twice the width and a luxurious gather.
