A 1-bit image contains just two tones, 0 Black and 255 White, so the intensity of each pixel can be specified by one binary digit, that is one bit.
A binary image is one that consists of pixels that can have one of exactly two colors, usually black and white. Binary images are also called bi-level or two-level, Pixelart made of two colours is often referred to as 1-Bit or 1bit. This means that each pixel is stored as a single biti.e., a 0 or 1.
Bitonal (bilevel, binary, or 1-bit). Bitonal means that each pixel in the image file can only have one of two tonal values, black or white (the tonal value can be stored in one bit of digital data, hence 1-bit or binary).
But mostly the final representation of colors on the screen is that black is [0,0,0] (if youre using 3 channels of color like rgb) or 0 if its a single channel. And white is [max, max, max] or just max. Because black is the absence of all visible light. So thats why its at 0.
Digital images are made up of pixels. Each pixel is represented by a binary number. Consider a simple black and white image. If 0 is black (or off) and 1 is white (or on), then a simple black and white picture can be created using binary.
The image uses only two shades, or tones completely white and completely black. Below: The original grayscale image of the same money order, showing full bit depth for better detail and shading. A bitonal image is an image consisting of only pure black and pure white pixels.
Numerically, the two values are often 0 for black, and either 1 or 255 for white. Binary images are often produced by thresholding a grayscale or color image, in order to separate an object in the image from the background.
Term: Bit depth (image) Definition: The number of bits used to represent each pixel in an image. The term can be confusing since it is sometimes used to represent bits per pixel and at other times, the total number of bits used multiplied by the number of total channels.
