Found poets have long been cut out of mainstream publishing, and blackout poets even more so. In order to get their work published, they have had to make their own journals or just self publish on social media or through self-publishers like CreateSpace.
The great thing about blackout poetry is that the poem can be quite abstract, it does not have to rhyme, it does not need any particular amount of lines and that's why it is great for students who “think” they cannot write poetry. The final words in the poem must be in order, they cannot be moved around.

Go back through your poem and boldly box the words you are keeping with pen, sharpie, dark pencil, etc. ... Read through your final poem. ... Write out your final poem to display next to your blackout poetry.
To make a blackout poem, you simply take an existing text (often newspaper articles or historical documents) and begin marking through words that you don't want in your poem and leaving behind words that you do. By doing this, you create your own new poem out of an entirely different original text.
