In AMS-LaTeX, the symbol is automatically appended at the end of a proof environment \begin{proof} \end{proof} . It can also be obtained from the commands \qedsymbol , \qedhere or \qed (the latter causes the symbol to be right aligned).
A QED symbol, , is automatically appended at the end of a proof environment. To substitute a different end-of-proof symbol, use \renewcommand to redefine the com- mand \qedsymbol.
While some authors still use the classical abbreviation, Q.E.D., it is relatively uncommon in modern mathematical texts. Paul Halmos claims to have pioneered the use of a solid black square (or rectangle) at the end of a proof as a Q.E.D. symbol, a practice which has become standard, although not universal.
This new command is \blackout, and is used in the form \blackout{Block of text}. This nice thing about this command is that it can stretch across line, paragraph, and page boundaries conveniently.
Greek letters in LaTeX must also be entered in the math environment. You can add a Greek letter to your document by using the command that corresponds with the Greek letter you wish to enter. Commands for Greek letters in LaTeX are the same as the name of the letter, e.g., $\alpha$ , $\beta$ , $\gamma$ .
