Redaction is the retroactive editing of a document to remove confidential material. Attorneys may often need to redact legal documents to protect attorney-client privilege and confidentiality.
In Microsoft Word, redaction is the process of obscuring or deleting sensitive or confidential information from a document. When you redact a section of a document in Word, it is permanently blacked out or removed, and the original text cannot be retrieved.
What Needs to Be Redacted in Legal Documents? Personally identifiable information (PII) Financial data. Privileged communications. Protected health information (PHI) Intellectual property. Trade secrets. Financial information. Privileged information safeguarded under attorney-client privilege or another form of privilege.
PHI redaction is the practice of concealing or removing specific patient information, like names and addresses, from healthcare records to protect patient privacy. This supports HIPAA compliance by ensuring that sensitive data is hidden, minimizing unauthorized access, and reducing the risk of data bdocHubes.
Use opaque (100% impenetrable by light; neither transparent nor translucent) tape or paper to cover over the sections to be redacted. Do not use plain-paper as the scanner may pick up images through the paper. Even some black paper may allow some light reflection - so be careful.
Text redaction includes blacking out, blurring out, deleting, or other means of hiding text in a document. Blacking out text is just one method of redacting text to hide sensitive information.
Answer: Make a photocopy of the document you dont want to redact the original. On the photocopy, use a black marker to conceal the PII that you want to redact. Photocopy the redacted document. Save the 1st photocopy (with the black ink redaction) with the original, to show the redaction effort.
Redaction is used to mask or remove sensitive content, in the form of personally identifiable information (PII), from your transcripts.
