Visual images are processed by the human brain 60,000 times faster than text. Web visitors scan written content and only read about 20% of the copy. People form a first impression of your content within 50 milliseconds.
The four steps of image analysis (raw data measurement, background subtraction, data correction, and normalization) are illustrated for a FRAP (photobleaching case) and a FLIP experiment. The regions used for fluorescence-intensity measurement are shown in the postbleached images.
Images should be evaluated on several levels. Visual analysis is an important step in evaluating an image and understanding its meaning. It is also important to consider textual information provided with the image, the image source and original context of the image, and the technical quality of the image.
Content analysis What do you see? What is the image about? Are there people in the image? What are they doing? How are they presented? Can the image be looked at different ways? How effective is the image as a visual message?
You should be able to: Describe the image and what it represents. Identify the techniques used to produce it whether it is original or a reproduction. Recognise if the image has been altered. Is it a detail of a larger image, have the colours been changed?
Hold the Alt key and click on an area near the hidden text that has a similar texture or color. Release the Alt key and start painting over the black box covering the text. Use short strokes to blend the cloned area with the surrounding pixels. Repeat this process until the hidden text is fully revealed.
4. Critical Analysis Why was it created? So what might it represent? How are the visual elements and composition used for effect? How does it compare/contrast to other examples? How does it relate to your practice?
Why do you think this image was made? Whats happening in the image? When do you think it was made? Who do you think was the audience for this image?
