if youre going through the IRS form W4 and youre getting this message on the tax withholding estimator where it says that theres a service outage from December 30th to January 3rd then its not going to work so what can you do if your employer just wants you to get this done and you dont really want to cause a problem then you can just fill out the IRS form W-4 and just fill out the top section put in your filing status and then sign it at the bottom what you can do in a week or so come back to the online estimator go through it again and you can resubmit your IRS form W4 and then it will adjust on the next pay period this is something you can do to get through it really quickly if youre in a jam

You do not have to fill out the new W-4 form if you already have one on file with your employer. You also dont have to fill out a new W-4 every year. If you start a new job or want to adjust your withholdings at your existing job, though, youll likely need to fill out the new W-4.
Under IRS regulations, a Form W-4 is invalid if any of the required information is missing and/or a signature is not provided. In addition, a Form W-4 is invalid if the official language on the form is deleted or altered. A Form W-4 is also invalid if an employee indicates in any way that it is false.
Filling the W-4 form out incorrectly can trigger an IRS penalty for underpayment (TRUE). Your employer will use the information you provide on Form W-4 to determine the amount of Federal income tax to withhold from your pay.
By placing a 0 on line 5, you are indicating that you want the most amount of tax taken out of your pay each pay period. If you wish to claim 1 for yourself instead, then less tax is taken out of your pay each pay period. 2. You can choose to have no taxes taken out of your tax and claim Exemption (see Example 2).
TIP: If you have self-employment income, see page 2. Complete Steps 34(b) on Form W-4 for only ONE of these jobs. Leave those steps blank for the other jobs. (Your withholding will be most accurate if you complete Steps 34(b) on the Form W-4 for the highest paying job.)

You can claim anywhere between 0 and 3 allowances on the W4 IRS form, depending on what youre eligible for. Generally, the more allowances you claim, the less tax will be withheld from each paycheck. The fewer allowances claimed, the larger withholding amount, which may result in a refund.
Only fill it out if itll help you calculate the number of allowances youre going to claim. Otherwise, just leave it blank. This is the only part of the form you must fill out, and its really not that daunting.
